The InvisibleStitch Project: Enabling Seamless User Experience in Ubiquitous Access of Services

In the ubiquitous access or ubiquitous computing (ubicomp) environment, location is one of the most widely used context information. During the first year of this project, we have focused our research efforts on improving the popular Wi-Fi based indoor location systems. Specifically, we have addressed a common problem of instability in positioning accuracy due to changing environmental dynamics. Our solution is sensor-assisted adaptation method that employs RFID sensors and environment sensors in Wi-Fi localization system. We have designed and implemented this method, and performed experiments that show the positioning error can be reduced by an average of 2.6 meters in comparison to traditional non-adaptive localization methods.
